Brian Jantz, Executive Chef

Brian was born in Germany while his father was stationed there, serving in the United States Army. He was raised in Wichita, Kansas and developed a passion for cooking at an early age. As a little boy he and his older brother would spend time in the kitchen with their grandmother doing things like baking breads and making holiday candies, as well as cutting vegetables for pot roast or making terrines. Even then, he recognized his passion for cooking and knew when it came time to hold a job, he wanted to be working in a professional kitchen. After graduating from high school he worked briefly at the Airport Radisson Hotel in Wichita and soon after, at age 19, convinced his parents to let him move to Kansas City and enroll in the Chef’s Apprenticeship and Hotel Management program at Johnson County Community College. At that time he apprenticed under German Chef Felix Sturmer at the Westin Hotel and Resorts in downtown Kansas City. During that time he also competed in numerous national culinary competitions, including locals such as Chicago, Denver, Wisconsin, St. Louis and Kansas City.

Upon graduating from Johnson County Community College he became the Chef de Cuisine of Benton’s Prime Steak House on the Rooftop of the Westin Hotel here in Kansas City, remaining with them for the next seven years. During that time, he also traveled with Starwood Hotels and Resorts as part of the team that opened “W” luxury concept hotels. In 1999 he left Westin Hotels and worked as the Executive Chef for Kansas City Catering, catering some of the finest events in all of the KC Metro for a variety of groups, ranging in size from anywhere between a hundred to three thousand people. Following that appointment he joined up with the Nelson Art Gallery for 2 years and then became the Executive Chef at The Country Club of Loch Lloyd, where he remained for the past eleven years.
